Really there haven’t been all that many exciting experiences to report, though I’ve been having a great time here in Amsterdam. Anyway, here’s the Rembrandt Museum, which I visited last week. It’s set in and around Rembrandt’s actual house, including all the rooms where he used to work. Above is a shot of the room where he made all his prints. I was lucky enough to catch a demonstration of the process. The demonstrator showed us by making a print using a replica of one of Rembrandt’s original plates.

Here is a shot of his painting studio.

It was too dark to get good shots of the many paintings hiding in here. There were also three floors of beautiful prints – I’d never realized before that Rembrandt was known in his time for his prints, and not his paintings. Having seen the incredible use of light and crosshatchwork I can see why.

I wish I could’ve found some of the more striking examples – the ones below are nice but not the best I saw at the museum. Should’ve noted the names of the prints I guess.

[1

post-208","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
