Kinetica Art Fair, London

This weekend I went to the Kinetica Art Fair, an exhibition of kinetic and interactive and otherwise contemporary art. Mad props to Jodi for letting me know this was going on. I took a ton of video and tried to upload it all, and thus I found out for the first time that YouTube will only allow you to upload 10 videos per day 🙂 So I got a couple more to put up later.
This group, Wrap3, has figured out how to create a video “skin” on any 3D object or space. SOOO freakin’ cool. They wouldn’t tell me how they did it. I got their cards, hopefully we can collaborate at some point in the future – this technology meshes really well with my video stuff.
I love these flowing metal arcs:
This use of light and reflection is beautiful.
These mechanical drawing arms are pretty cool:
This one made me laugh. It’s by sculptor and DJ Giles Walker:
Here’s an overhead shot of the gallery:
More videos to come, some of the coolest stuff, like the array of siren lights that follows you as you move through it, and an ex-gymnast who uses light, lasers and holograms strapped to his body in lots of different ways to project his dance into the space. Really cool stuff.
When I was there I totally forgot to note down the names of artists and works. Sorry about that! I’ve dug up what names I could from the cards and notes I got, or from Google, but if anyone checking this post out can provide names and info about the various pieces, please note it in the comments and I’ll add it to the post.

The pole dancing bots remind me of those creepy animatronics at Chuck E Cheese’s (but the pole dancers are more personable).

The pole dancers also move much more smoothly.

Heh, an interesting comparison. Also, every half-hour or so they took a break from pole-dancing to sing “happy birthday” for some kid’s party.
