My Birthday in Venice
by dag on Mar.28, 2009, under Uncategorized
That’s right, my eyes began glowing blue for my birthday. No idea why. Actually, these are some LED glasses I purchased after most of a night of drinking at one of Venice’s two late-night bars. The dodgy guy selling them wanted 8 euro, but I talked him down to 2.50.
Here’s a whole bunch of the folks from the hostel, at the aforementioned bar. Hailing from Georgia, New Zealand, England, California, Venice, and other places I forget. They’re all awesome and I had a ton of fun hanging out with them.
Some more pics I took on my day:
Also I’ve been having fun taking pictures of people taking pictures of other stuff.
I’ve got a ton of sketches to post, as soon as I get around to digitizing them all. Stretching back to Paris – almost a month of them, although I didn’t sketch much in Amsterdam or Spain really.

Jim…those glasses are BOSS.
Happy birthday, man.
Eight years ago I had the most amazing hot chocolate in that square in Venice. I search always for something like it and…nada.
Am having a mixture of nostalgia and seething envy looking at these pics.

Thanks Shannon!
Damn, I missed my chance to have the hot chocolate! Ah well.
Did you just visit Venice, or other places in Italy?
I’ve left Venice, but have yet to visit Florence, Rome, Napoli, possibly other places. Any recommendations for stuff I should definitely check out? That question goes out to all 3 1/2 of my blog readers 🙂

Is that the Piazza San Marco? I believe it is!!
Glad you got to see it above water!
As you may remember, my own favorite was Florence. Another was the view from Assisi on a clear day – I remember walking up the steps that had nearly worn away from over a thousand years of feet and being overcome with that unique chill of antiquity when I looked back and saw the Appian Way stretching off toward Rome.

Yeah, I remember you telling me about those experiences, one of the main reasons I wanted to visit Italy so much 🙂 I forgot that Florence was your favorite – I’m in Florence now, and I can see why! I wish it was a bit sunnier but it’s been beautiful nonetheless. And the FOOD… 🙂 Just climbed Giotto’s Tower at the Duomo this morning. Such a beautiful city! And yeah, I can’t wait to see Asisi. Si!

Thought I should leave a postscript in case you try to take my colorful reference above literally: the actual Appian Way runs south out of Rome and cannot actually be seen from up in Assisi, except in the overactive and fertile imagination 😉

Far be it from me to suggest that you have taken the ‘bright eyes’ thing TOO FAR B-)
